Interning- Now Taking Applications For The 2012 Season..
This will be the fifth year that Rosasharn Farm has offered internships. As an intern you become part of our community, participating not only in the garden work, but also in the daily chores of running an integrated farm and being part of a community. Plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables. Milk goats and make soap and cheese. Prepare meals with us - always a very important part of the day. Relax around a bonfire after good hard work is done in the field. This is a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a diversified sustainably managed small farm. We also encourage our interns to share their skills and interests with the farm and work as independently as they feel comfortable- even working on their own small projects. Interns are expected to be enthusiastic and hardworking and able to complete basic farm tasks (once trained) alone, though people usually work together. As an intern you can expect to walk away with a new set of skills, experiences, and friends.
We are flexible with start and end dates, but expect a minimum of a 2 month commitment, though we prefer a commitment for the full growing season. As an intern your main responsibility will be to the CSA garden, although this is flexible and we have had interns in the past who geared their time more towards their interests in the animals, food preparation, construction, etc. The first week of your stay will be a trial period to ensure that your internship is a great fit for you and the farm.
You will be expected to work in the garden (or on other projects around the farm) 8 hours a day.
Duties/Skills you will learn include:
- Field Preparation
- Direct seeding and transplanting
- Hand cultivating/weeding
- Harvesting and preparation for CSA pickup
- Managing compost
- Maintaining crop records and notes
- Mowing and general farm maintenance
